Family tradition says that my ansestor James PEARCE came from RI. He first apears in Camden Co NC in 1790 when he and his brother John bought a piece of land with two other men. James and John are listed as Millwrights. Sometime after moving to NC he married Sarah (Sally) MCBRIDE from Camden Co NC and had at least 6 sons and one daughter. He may also have had a stepson named James P MARCHANT. James P MARCHANT and James PEARCE's sons call each other brother and James P MARCHANT seems to be related to the MCBRIDE's. In 1810 James P MARCHANT bought land in Camden Co NC and he is recorded as James Pearce MARCHANT of Warren State of Rhode Island. Is there any record of a James P MARCHANT in RI? Is anything known about a James PEARCE and a John PEARCE who may have moved to NC?

I am looking for information on the public offices held by Simmons COLE of Warren, RI (1789-1861). My notes show him to have been Sheriff of Bristol County, and in the RI State Legislature. He married Sarah MASON in 1811 and served in the Bristol Co. Militia 1814-1819. I'd guess he'd have served as sheriff after that time, and as Legislator after his sheriff's service. The E.B. COLE genealogy is being revised and updated now and I hope to include confirmation that Simmons COLE did, indeed, serve in those capacities, and to know the dates of service and the sources for the information.

I am searching for information on Mary COLE b. 1765 in Warren, Rhode Island. I believe her parents to be Isaiah and Eleanor NICHOLS COLE. She possibly married a Joseph MARCY. My Mary was married to Rufus EDSON of Middleboro, Massachusetts around 1783. It is possible that her name was Mary COLE SAMPSON. There is some confusion that perhaps there were two Mary COLE's and I would like to find our true ancester. Thank you. Pat Mote
