CARR, HILL posted by Pat Noble on Saturday, October 8, 2005

The Rhode Island Cemetery Transcription Project shows the following listing: CARR Elizabeth 1752c - 16 July 1826 WR001. I believe this to be Elizabeth (HILL) CARR, wife of Jonathan CARR. (Her husband is also buried in the North Burial Ground in Warren.) I wonder if there isn't a problem with the year of death in some of the many records of her death I've found. Arnold's Vital Records of RI Vol XII page 450 cites the Providence Journal of 96 August 1823 as follows: Elizabeth CARR, widow of Jonathan, in 76th year, at Warren. Arnold's Vital Records of RI Vol XXI page 32 cites the RI American of 26 August 1825 as follows: Mrs Elizabeth CARR, wife of late Jonathan, at Warren, in 76th year. And Arnold's Vital Records of RI Vol XIII page 253 cites the Providence Gazette of 27 August 1825 as follows: Mrs Elizabeth CARR, widow of Jonathan, at Warren, in 76th year. Arnold's Vital Records of RI Volume XVIII cites the Providence Phenix of 27 August 1825 as follows: Elizabeth CARR, widow of late Jonathan, at Warren, in 76th year. Most of the records seem to cite 1825 -- one says 1823 and one says 1826. Maybe some industrious soul would someday be willing to check the original sources and see if we're talking about the same woman and the same year, maybe 1825? Nothing urgent, just for the record.
