I am looking for any info on Patrick MCKENNA m. Mary LYONS, was listed in the Providence census of 1895. I started the search a few years ago before I retired, but I didn't get very far. I did check the microfiche at the Historical Society in a very quick way. Patrick & Mary were my grandparents. I did locate Mary's sister's birth listed in Middleton, County Cork, Eire. Mary was born 2 years before they started to keep civil records, so I only have her sister's records. Still it gave me a shivery feeling to be down in the vaults and see the spidery handwriting listing her sister's birth. I believe that they were living in the Assumption Parish in Providence. Thanks for any info that you might give me.

Subj: Request Civil War Veteran Help I am associated with the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in Michigan.I recently received a request for information from a man in South Africa regarding a grave and headstone he recently discovered near his home. The stone is marked Dr. John Tower BLAKE, born in Providence, Rhode Island, Dec 1st 1840, died July 27 1927, Middelburg and that he fought in the battle of Gettysburg. Our research in Michigan has found that John T. BLAKE who was living at Bathulia, Orange Free State (now known as South Africa) in 1882 was drawing a pension for a wound received in the Civil War. We strongly suspect that the man in question may be 2nd Lieutenant John T. BLAKE, Battery B, 1st Regiment, Rhode Island Light Artillery. Certainly we could access this pension record from the National Archives to confirm this but that could take months. Can one of you confirm this speculation and perhaps tell us a bit about Dr. BLAKE, like how he happened to come to South Africa? Thank you for any assistance
