Please help find an ancestor who disappeared! The name is James TAYLOR and he married Hanora (Hanna) MCGUIGAN in Providence on Aug. 28, 1876 by Rev. Robert Sullivan, I'm not sure what church but many generations after belonged to St. Mary's. His wife died in 1934 and rumor has it that he died before 1900 but there is no death record in R.I. where they lived, their prior residence in MA., or his birth state in VT. My grandmother also claims his wife collected a civil war pension but no records there either. Any suggestions? Their children were Martha Taylor SULLIVAN, William Taylor, and Roseanne Taylor ONEIL.

Researching surnames GOFF and FRENCH in Providence. I suspect that Florence GOFF, b. 25 Aug. 1873, d. Dec 1974, and may have married a Dr. POTTER, had a mother whose maiden name was FRENCH. She lived in Providence all her life. I suspect that her mother's brother was Jaret FRENCH, my great-Grandfather, who left for California in 1849.

PHILLIPS, Willis of Glocester 179x. JEPHERSON of Glocester/Smithfield? Anyone have this family? ANGELL, Sarah married James TUCKER and showed up in Halifax, VT. about 1800. James TUCKER was the son of Mary (BROWN) TUCKER, who was widowed in 1767 in Preston (now Griswold), CT. Mary and her son James disappeared for 25 years or so. Think perhaps Mary slipped over the Ct/Ri line and married again.

Seeking someone to look up and copy an obituary for me. The person's name was Andrew DOUGHERTY (or DOHERTY) lived at 14 Gillen Street, Providence. The date of death was September 30, 1907. I'd appreciate it if someone who has access to newspapers of the period could look it up for me- I can't get down to RI very often. I visit the NYS library often and the National Archives branch in Pittsfield, Ma. where I'd be willing to do lookups!

My research has reached a standstill. My ancestor Philip LOGEE was made a freeman at Smithfield, RI in 1753. Came over with father, Abraham, who died in 1767 at Smithfield, and we have no other info on Abraham. Where did he come from? One family source says France, Huguenots. Philip LOGEE married Comfort CHASE in 1754, sons Caleb and Aaron. The surnames in RI are: BATTLES, HOLBROOK, CHASE, SHERMAN, EMERSON, LAPHAM, BALLOU, THAYER.

STRAIGHT -- Trying to verify if Welcome STRAIGHT is the son of Solomon STRAIGHT. Welcome was born on July 18, 1850 in Providence, Rhode Island. I know that Solomon STRAIGHT (and I believe Welcome) appears in the 1850 Census, but I do not have copies. Further, I believe Solomon was the son of John STRAIGHT (1744-?) and Sarah AUSTIN. John was the son of Thomas STRAIGHT (abt. 1678-1759) and Amy GREENMAN. Any assistance in verifying any of this would be appreciated. Also, drop me an E-Mail if I can be of assistance to you regarding any of these surnames. Thanks.

Ebenezer TRASK's 2nd Company, Town of Smithfield, RI. I have the Natl. Archives index card # of 2480, apparently he is listed under James BELOW. I have submitted a request to the NA, but they did not have any information and suggested I contact RI. But I am not sure who to write to, can anyone tell me where I should write or do a lookup? Or is anyone else researching the same family. Any help would greatly appreciated.
