KRAUSSE, NOBIS posted by Bob Nobis on Sunday, May 18, 1997

My great grandparents and their children, including my grandfather were reported to have resided in Providence for just over a year after their arrival in the U.S. This would have been from March 1869 and September 1869 (two separate sailings) until about August or September 1870, when they moved to Grant County, Wisconsin. Here are the names: Heinrich Ferdinand NOBIS (arrived in March 1869 Edith (Ida) Pauline KRAUSSE NOBIS (arrived Sept 1869) Max Ludwig NOBIS (arrived March 1869) Henry (Heinrich) Anton NOBIS (arrived Sept 1869) Gustave C. NOBIS (arrived Sept 1869) Martha Q. NOBIS (arrived Sept 1869) Infant NOBIS (age 3 mo) (arrived Sept 1869) The source of my information on the short residency in Providence was a short newspaper article that was publish some time after they arrived in Wisconsin. Do you know of any sources in RI that I might search to document that my great grandparents and their children resided in Rhode Island. For example, is there a census index for the 1870 census that might list the NOBIS family? Also I believe the 3 month old infant Nobis, may have died in Providence, as he/she does not show up on any records in Wisconsin. Are there cemetery or death Indexes that I might search?
