WALKER, WELDON posted by Peter T. Eggers on Saturday, September 6, 1997

George WALKER was born in Providence in 1852 and enlisted in the U.S. calvary in Dec. of 1874 under the name George WELDON. He was killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn in June of 1876. I am trying to find out why he enlisted under the name of George WELDON. George WELDON appears in census records for Providence up until 1882 so he was in fact another person. If you have any access to old records or newspaper accounts, or can help me in any other way I would appreciate hearing from you.

I am trying to find information on a Edward Payson WESTON. His mother and father I believe were Cranston Rhode Island residents. I believe his father was John or James WESTON and a school teacher. He died probably in mid 1860's maybe later. I would like to know his parents names. I believe this ties to a Moses WESTON possibly of Mass. I know he was in Providence county when he died at Crantson.

BALLOU, JACKSON, PIERCE, SMITH posted by Jeannie Smith on Saturday, September 20, 1997

JACKSON, BALLOU, PIERCE - Gloucester, Providence Co., RI Searching for Amos JACKSON, m. Cynthia BALLOU b. 1791, Gloucester. David BALLOU + Mary SMITH > Cynthia BALLOU Amos is also listed as a child(?) - more likely a boarder or apprentice under John PIERCE, b. 1787 RI + Hannah BALLOU, b. 1786 RI Their children (besides Amos): S.D. PIERCE, b. ca 1808 RI; dtr. PIERCE, b. ca. 1810 RI, and Cordelia PIERCE, b. 1829 NY. Cynthia was also listed with a second husband, Abraham JACKSON, but I don't have a clue as to who he is. The above info I got from the LDS Ancestral Files at our local Family History Center. I am trying to establish a definite link between this Amos JACKSON and Cynthia BALLOU and my Amos JACKSON, who I know was b. in New England and was father to my ancestor Joseph JACKSON, b. CT ca 1792 Amos' widow "Cintha" was b. in RI ca 1793. Amos had a farm in NY in the early 1800's and moved to Pike Co. IL ca 1824. He died there in 1845 at age 86. I'm thinking maybe Cynthia BALLOU is his second wife and maybe they married in NY or CT after his first wife was born. I know that Joseph was sent to live with an uncle at some time, so maybe his mother died early. Anyone have a clue that I'm right or way off the track? Email me at Wordgenius@aol.com
