Irish in Burrillville after 1850 I would like to communicate with descendants of Irish immigrants in Burrillville, RI, including Pascoag, after 1850. I am especially interested in immigrants who came from Kilglass Parish, County Roscommon, and its surroundings. My gggrandfather was John RILEY, who came from Kilglass in 1848 to Providence, married Catherine MCNALLY of County Monaghan in 1853. They were in Burrillville 2 or 3 years later. John had six siblings who also emigrated to RI, and many of them went to Burrillville. In the early '60s, some of them moved on to eastern Connecticut, but the family maintained connections to Burrillville for decades and buried family in St. Patrick's cemetery. Surnames connected with the family include FEATHERSTONE, HENRY, O'REILLEY, ELWOOD, SMITH, HALEY, COLGAN (COLLIGAN), O'CONNOR, PRENDERGAST, O'BRIEN, HANAWAY, LOGAN, HAYDEN, LENEHAN, LONG, CORCORAN, FANNING, HANLEY, DOCKERY, FLANAGAN, etc. I would like to get some sense of the size of the Roscommon emigrant community who settled there and identify family connections. Thanks for your help. Anyone whose emigrants came from Kilglass should check out the web site at www.ballykilcline.com. Many of the emigrants from the Kilglass area were former tenants of the Mahon estate, based in Strokestown, where the Famine Museum is now located.
