GIROUX, LÉTOURNEAU, LÉVEILLÉ, MAY, PELLAND, THÉROUX, TOUGAS posted by J Richard Pelland on Saturday, April 3, 1999

I would like to know the names of the parents of Olivier PELLAND, married Anna LÉVEILLÉ at Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes church, Providence RI 8 MAY 1922. She was the daughter of Joseph LÉVEILLÉ and Césarie THÉROUX. A brother of Anna, Arthur LÉVEILLÉ married Irène PELLAND at the same church. I suspect that she is a sister of Oliver. In 1926, Olivier and Anna were living on Atwell street with Cuthbert PELLAND and wife Evéline GIROUX, but I do not know their relationship. I am also looking for the parents of Rita Marie PELLAND, married to Paul TOUGAS, son of Joseph TOUGAS and Lodina LÉTOURNEAU, 12 Oct 1944 in Providence. Paul died 24 Dec 1969 in Brockton MA. I have five children born to this couple. J Richard Pelland

DEKEWICZ, DEKWICZ, DZIEKIEWICZ, KEWPIE, RING posted by Nancy Ring Kendrick on Sunday, April 4, 1999

RING and DZIEKIEWICZ; Providence; 1893-present This week, new research information has lead us into the state of RI in an effort to locate our ancestors. As I result, I am a new subscriber to your list. We are searching any links to the RING and DZIEKIEWICZ families in Rhode Island, and specifically in the Providence area, from 1893-present. It should be noted that there are various spellings of the surname DZIEKIEWICZ to include DEKWICZ and DEKEWICZ. Searching for Barbara RING DZIEKIEWICZ b. abt. 1874 in Austria or Germany Barbara married Walter DZIEKIEWICZ and they had at least two sons: Walter and George DZIEKIEWICZ or any version of the aka's. Walter was a professional prize fighter, and used the name KEWPIE, along with Walter RING as his professional names. Kewpie RING; aka Walter DEKWICZ - aka DEKEWICZ - aka DZIEKIEWICz; died 30 April 1967. His address at time of death was 2317 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA. Walter (KEWPIE's) spouse Edna did not survive him. His sole heir was his brother George DZIEKIEWICZ who lived at 103 Federal Street, Providence, RI. Walter's uncle, John Joseph RING, Sr. was a student at Brown University in the early 1900's, although the college has no record of his attendance or admission as a student. But, a family portrait shows John at the college football field, in a Brown uniform. Any assistance or leads regarding the DZIEKIEWICZ and RING surname in RI would be greatly appreciated. GIBBS, WORTHINGTON posted by Nancy-Jo Nunez on Sunday, April 25, 1999

GIBBS, Augustus, married "Lizzie" in the town of Johnston, RI. Had one known child, Julia Anna GIBBS. Julia was born in 1877 and died in 1934 in the city of Providence. A marriage application exist in the town of Johnston on Julia, identifying her mother and father but no birthplaces of her parents are documented. Suspect "Lizzie" could be Elizabeth WORTHINGTON of Suffolk, England. Need more information from anyone who is searching GIBBS in Rhode Island. Were there any other children born of GIBBS, Augustus and "Lizzie"? Augustus could have possibly been an Algonquinn indian, originally from the south county areas of RI. Appreciate any feedback possible. Thank you.

BROWN, HOPKINS, JENCKS posted by Lynne Welch on Tuesday, April 27, 1999

Need information on the wife of Nathan HOPKINS. He was born 21 May 1769 in Scituate, Providence County, RI. Believe wife's first name was Polly (b. 3 May 1773, d. 24 May 1842 in Foster Twsp, Providence County, RI. Need marriage date as well as parents' names and information. Nathan's parents were Hanan HOPKINS (b. 1 Mar 1743 Scituate, Providence County, RI) and Rhoda JENCKS (b 13 Nov 1741 in Providence, Providence Co., d. 16 Dec 1783). Nathan and Polly had 2 children: Mason Brown HOPKINS (b. 21 Jun 1809 in Foster Twsp, d. 2 Jan 1959 in Coventry Co); and Patty M. HOPKINS (b. 8 Sep 1811 in Providence, Providence Co., d. 6 Sep 1860 in Foster Twsp). Given that the son's middle name was BROWN, it is possible Polly's maiden name was also BROWN but I have been unable to make a specific connection. Any suggestions gratefully received!
