Hello RI List members, I have just stumbled upon a great website and wanted to send it to everyone who receives queries. The site is of historical use, a week ago someone posted a query about Greystone, lots of people responded with the name of a street. This site has maps in 1895, old town names, population counts and maps! If you're looking for towns, locations that no one can remember or even knows, check this site out. It was very helpful to me to see the map of 1895. Go to: www.LivGenMI.com/providenceRI.htm and also www.LivGenMI.com/ricounty.htm

CARPENTER, POTTER posted by Jan Robison on Tuesday, May 11, 1999

CARPENTER, Ebenezer is buried at the Cumberland Cemetery. Does anyone have access to additional information? I am looking for information on an Ebenezer CARPENTER who was the father of George Bradford CARPENTER, b. 8 Nov 1842. Ebenezer died in the winter of 1847 in Potter Hill, Washington County, RI, but there is no Ebenezer buried in that area, as far as I can tell. His wife's name was Frances _____. I am wondering if he was removed to Cumberland after his death. George Bradford himself said that he never knew his father because he died so young. G. B. C. then lived with the POTTER family. So, where did his mommy go?? Any clues out there?

HOPKINS, SMITH, WILLIAMS, WOOD posted by Christian Williams on Wednesday, May 19, 1999

WILLIAMS: Seeking info. regarding Elder John WILLIAMS (and his son Numa WILLIAMS), great, great grandson of Roger WILLIAMS, RI's Founder. Elder John was born in Scituate, RI, in 1742, the third son of Benoni WILLIAMS and Abigail SMITH. He had approx. 14 children by three different wives; Bethiah HOPKINS, Alcy HOPKINS (both sisters who were related to Stephen HOPKINS, signer of the Declaration of Independence), and Elizabeth SMITH. I believe he lived most of his adult life in Foster, RI, until approx. 1817 when he moved to NY. Apparently he was a chaplain under Gen. George Washington during the Revolutionary War, and was also apparently elected Town Moderator and First Deputy to the General Assembly at Foster, RI's first town meeting in 1781. His oldest son, Festus, moved to NY in 1800 and several of his other sons (Eber, Reuben, Numa, and George H.)also moved to NY in the following years. Any additional info. regarding Elder John, his wives, and children (particularly his son Numa) would be greatly appreciated. Numa WILLIAMS was born in RI in 1783, married Mary WOOD sometime in the early 1800s, and moved to Herkimer County, NY prior to 1810. Thanks very much.
