HAWKINS, SMITH posted by Barry Christopher Howard on Tuesday, February 8, 2005

I have a SMITH relative who was born in RI, moved to Rutland County, VT and then to Erie Co, NY. His name is William SMITH and he was born sometime between 7/24 and 10/9, 1777. He married a Hannah, also from RI.. Based on migration patterns, I am fairly certain that he is a grandson of Richard SMITH and Sarah HAWKINS, but I cannot find any information on the William SMITH's that descend from Ezekiel, Nehemiah, Richard and William SMITH (sons of Richard and Sarah). You seem to know a bit about this line, so I was wondering if you might be able to shed some light on the matter for me? He had his children in Wallingford, Rutland Co, VT between 1800 and 1808, and then moved to Springville/Concord area, Erie Co, NY, where he settled and died. Erasmus Briggs wrote up a good bit about him in the History of Concord ('Governor' William SMITH, as he was called). Any thoughts?
