ALDRICH, OLNEY, SMITH posted by Kristi Wheeler on Tuesday, July 17, 2007

ALDRICH, Rufus We are searching for any information about the birthplace and ancestry of Rufus ALDRICH born 1782 or 83 probably in Providence County. He married Mary or Polly SMITH of Rhode Island in Pownal, VT. in December, 1805. We believe Mary SMITH may have been born in Smithfield, R.I. in 1783, a daughter of Jeremiah SMITH and Levina OLNEY. They moved first to the Cooperstown area of N.Y. ca. 1806, then to Binghamton, Broome Co., N.Y. ca. 1820 and to Smithfield, Bradford County, PA. By the 1850s, most of the family moved to Illinois and Iowa. Children included William, Diana, John C., Miranda, Rufus Jr., Mary, Lucy and Harriet.

BLANCHARD posted by Sally Rasmussen on Thursday, July 19, 2007

Would like to correspond with anyone doing research on the Richard BLANCHARD family. He was admitted to the Providence Plantations in 1697. His wife's first name was Mary and they had at least three children: John b. 19 Sept 1697, Benjamin b. 17 Nov 1701, and Mary b. 21 April 1706. I am very interested in knowing if there were more children. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sally Rasmussen sally.ras@centurytel.net

BARRY posted by Judy Williams on Wednesday, August 1, 2007

I am looking for John BARRY born in Ireland abt 1833. I have found a John BARRY in the 1860 census in Smithfield, Providence Co., RI, age 18. It appears that he lived/worked in some type of clothing factory. I do know that about 1860 he married Catharine (?) and had a daughter born in RI about 1860-61 named Julia. They apparently moved to Wisconsin, since my gr-gr-grandmother was born there in 1862. I would be greatful for any information on this couple. marriage record, birth record or whatever might be out there. Are there any records pertaining to old factories from that time? Any help would be appreciated Judy Williams

BALLARD, KNOWLTON, MORORY, MOROWY posted by Diane Reid on Wednesday, August 1, 2007

Volume 1, page 289 of the Glocester Land Records shows Jermiah BALLARD of Smithfield buying a portion of Littleworth Swamp, held in common with Captain Joseph MORORY, Elisha KNOWLTON, and Ananias MOROWY in 1734. He sold his portion in 1738. I cannot locate Littleworth Swamp, and assume it has changed it's name. Can someone tell me the current name of this area, and if it is in Glocester or one of the towns sprung off from that town.

POTTER, STEERE posted by Melanie Davis on Wednesday, August 1, 2007

I'm looking for any information on George N. STEERE (Jr.), who worked in the county of Providence as a jeweller from the early 1900's until at least the 1920's. I believe he is the son of George N. STEERE, who was born in 1843 at Sutton, Mass, and who married Ann Eliza POTTER in 1867. George Jr.'s siblings were William Vaughn, Harry Howard, Mary E., and Edward H. There are records of George Jr. having registered patents in 1905 and 1907, giving his residence as Cranston, RI. His work is distinguished by his use of small green eyes in the creatures with which he embellished his work. For samples, go to the web page http://www.valkyria.ca/portal_page1.html

CHRISTIE, LAVEALLE, MCBIRNEY, MCBOURNEY posted by Roisin Lafferty on Wednesday, August 22, 2007

Since posting a query some time ago for John F. CHRISTIE, of 93 Elm Street Pawtucket b. Ireland Feb 1885 I have found further information. He completed his draft card in 1917 but am not sure if he served anywhere. He gave his aunt Catherine MCBOURNEY of Division Street as his next of kin. I am of the opinion that some of the McBOURNEY (MCBIRNEY lawyers maybe) family may be still in the area, His occupation was a sailor with the NE steamship company. Now he has turned up in 1933 in Buffum Street Pawtucket, which is back to back with his old address at 93 Elm Street. He was friendly with the Widow LAVEALLE who kept a general store in the Elm Street area and who was born in County Monaghan and may be related to him too. Trying to find his date of death or where he was buried. Thanks to all you willing helpers. Roisin
